Is this man a hypocrite?
It has come to the attention of Angry of Havering that a certain group of councillors have been ordered not to reply to the legitimate request of a Havering ratepayer for their views. Thats right it would appear that the Conservatives have been told not tell us their views on the Smart Car. The gentleman in the picture for those unaware is the leader of the council and leader of the ruling Conservative group, Councillor White.
Councillor White writes a blog for the Havering Council website and this is what he had to say in October of last year...
"Part of the problem seems to be that younger people, and older people too for that matter, don't realise how much their local council does on their behalf. It's our job, as Councillors to make sure we connect fully with local people to explain what they get in return for their council tax and to encourage them to talk to us about how they would like to see the borough develop.
I'd be interested in hearing any good ideas you have about how we might improve engagement between the Council and local people and what drives you to vote (or not)."
Now that does not sound like a man who would take part in, let alone order, a conspiracy of silence. Angry of Havering does not believe that a man who could rise to the lofty heights of leader of the Conservatives in Havering would be stupid enough, nor so arrogant as to ignore those he is elected to represent.
Angry of Havering believes in giving a voice to those who we do not agree with and this is Councillor Whites opportunity to give his views. Is Councillor White a hypocrite? Does he just pay lip service in wanting the ratepayers of Havering to engage with the council? We shall see.
Over the coming months and years we will be asking for Councillor Whites views on many things such as council housing allocation but that is another story.
