You couldn't make it up!!!
On Thursday 13th March 3 police officers visited Angry of Havering stating that an allegation was made by an employee of Havering Council, this employee is in the management office that operates the Parking Enforcement. The allegation was that a comment was made when we (Angry of Havering) contacted their office earlier in the week. We were alleged to have said words to the effect that "we hoped they and members of their family died of cancer". This is a blatant lie and we have instructed the police to see if the call was recorded, we have also asked that action be taken against this individual for slander and waste of police time and resources.
We would like to say that the police officers (all 3 of them) were very polite and courteous at all times, and hope that this matter will be fully looked into.
UPDATE:- 19th March 2008
Today we have received a letter from Mark Butler who is head of Technical Services it reads as follows:-
17th March 2008
Contact with Parking Services
I understand you have recently telephoned various members of staff within Parking Services during which it is alleged that you have at times made threatening remarks constituting harassment of Council Employees.
Like any employer, the Council is not prepared to tolerate threatening behaviour towards its staff and i have therefor instructed Parking Services staff that they should decline speaking to you in the event of you contacting them again by telephone. if you have any outstanding issues with Parking Services I would advise you to submit details to myself, in writing, whereupon I shall consider any points raised and respond accordingly.
I gather you have spoken recently to my colleague, Christine Dooley, and are aware of our stance concerning the 'AngryofHavering.com' website. whilst the Council recognises freedom of speech, we are concerned about the suggested publication of staff names, photographs and personal contact details and would welcome your assistance in removing any such content, should it be posted on to the website by third parties, as soon as possible. In this respect, I would ask that references within within the Forum pages to a staff member known as 'Gibbs or Gibson' are deleted.
Finally, I am aware of the police visit to your offices last week and wish to clarify one point in this respect. The Council has made no allegation to the police about you making any reference to 'cancer'. A comment has been made to staff previously to this effect but it was made quite clear to police that we were not attributing this comment to yourself. I trust this clarifies any misunderstanding and consequent offence caused on this issue.
Yours sincerely
Mark Butler
Head of Technical Services
